Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former Member of Legislative Assembly Nimmaka Gopal Rao passed away on Saturday.

Gopal Rao had been suffering from ill health since the past few days. He was 65.

Once considered as one of the more powerful TDP leaders from Srikakulam district, Gopal Rao was elected MLA from Kottoor, 4 consecutive times, from 1983-1999.

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his shock on hearing the news of Gopal Rao's passing away, and said that the TDP has lost a dedicated soldier of the party.
