Former minister and Telugu Desam Party leader B V Mohan Reddy, on Friday, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He was 67.
The TDP leader, who contested from Yemmiganur in the recent by-elections, and lost to YSRCP leader Chennakesava Reddy, was convalescing from stomach ailments, for several months. However, he was recently admitted to the Asian Institute Of Gastroenterology. On Friday morning, his condition deteriorated, and he was put on ventilator support. He died after a few hours.
Mohan Reddy's body will be shifted to Kurnool on Saturday, where his last rites will be performed.
He was elected to the state Legislative Assembly 5 times on the TDP ticket, from 1988 to 1999, and worked in various capacities as minister during the stint of chief ministers N T Rama Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu.
He was a self-styled astrologer, and was believed to be a a close confidante of both NTR and Naidu.
Mohan Reddy played a crucial role in the development of the Yemmiganur Assembly constituency in Kurnool district, in both agriculture and industry.
It may be recalled that a few days back, the TDP president had visited the hospital to wish him a speedy recovery.
Several TDP leaders, including party president Chandrababu Naidu, expressed shock and grief over his death, and sent condolence messages to his family members. (INN)
