Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BRS suffered another jolt today after a senior leader and former GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan decided to join the ruling Congress in Telangana.
Rammohan called on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the latter's residence today and reportedly expressed his desire to join the Congress.
Rammohan had served as the Mayor of the GHMC after the BRS government came to power for the first time in 2014.
However, he is said to be unhappy with the BRS leadership for some time now as he was denied the ticket for the Uppal Assembly constituency in the recently held elections.
Rammohan is planning to contest for the Malkajgiri seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BRS leadership is however said to be planning to field a son of former minister and Medchal MLA Malla Reddy for the seat. Sensing that he will not get the ticket, Rammohan has reportedly decided to join Congress.
However, there is tough competition for the Congress ticket for the seat as well.
Rammohan's wife Sridevi is the GHMC corporator for the Cherlapally division.
