Demanding that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao ban the consumption alcohol in Telangana, Congress senior leader V Hanumantha Rao alleged that the State government was rampantly handing over alcohol sale permits to dealers only to fill its own treasury.
Speaking to the media at the Assembly premises on Sunday, Rao claimed that alcohol was the leading cause of domestic and public violence against women.
He also said that the youth who consumed alcohol were more likely to become unemployable and side tracked from their goals. Hundreds of them die each year of drunken driving.
Pointing out Bihar's example, he urged all political parties to take a unanimous stance against liquor consumption in the State and press for a total prohibition. He pointed out that all political parties in Bihar supported the ban on alcohol consumption in their State.
