The thick fog at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, hit flight operations, throwing air traffic out of gear and forcing airlines to reschedule their flights, on Tuesday.
The forced rescheduling of the flights led to domestic and international passengers being put to inconvenience.
According to sources, flights bound to Hyderabad from Bangalore were running behind schedule, with some being delayed by about 40 minutes.
Flights arriving from Tirupati to Hyderabad were running an hour late. Both incoming and departing flights were delayed because of unusual fog conditions.
The meteorological department attributed the thick fog to a "rare phenomenon" in Hyderabad.
It, however, said, the airport was able to substantially minimise the delays thanks to the enhanced technical facilities available with the Air Traffic Control (ATC).
