The leopard which has been prowling around the Shamshabad airport for five days now was finally caught today.
The leopard entered a cage set up by the forest department officials to eat a lamb used to lure it, in the early hours today.
The leopard was trapped shut in the cage the moment it entered it.
Chief Conservator of Forests R M Dobriyal said that the leopard was caught at 2:15 am.
The forest staff have been working hard for the past five days to capture the leopard, and the airport officials and they heaved a sigh of relief following its capture.
For the unversed, on the 28th of last month, the leopard had entered the Shamshabad airport area by jumping into it from Gollapalli in the early hours. An alarm was raised in the airport control room after it came in contact with the electric fencing wires while it was jumping the compound wall. The airport staff noticed the leopard's movement and informed the forest department officials.
The forest department officials have been making continuous attempts to catch the leopard since then. Five cages and 20 cameras were installed to capture it.
The leopard will be shifted to the city-based Nehru Zoological Park. The cat's health condition would be checked at the zoo, and it would be shifted to the Amrabad Tiger Reserve.
