Five persons died on the spot and three others received serious injuries in a tragic accident that took place at the Lingampally gate in Manchala mandal on Monday.
The accident occurred when a speeding car hit an auto in which the victims were travelling.
The police reached the spot immediately after knowing of the incident, and shifted the injured to a Hyderabad hospital immediately.
The deed persons were identified as Cheemala Mamatha, Cheemala Sujatha, Ambothu Asali, Ambothu Maru and driver Vangala Srinu, and were all from Chennareddygudem village. They were coming to Hyderabad to sell their vegetables.
It is learnt that the accident took place due to the car speeding. The police launched an interrogation after registering a case.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties demanded that the state government announce Rs. 25 lakhs in ex-gratia to the bereaved families, and that the government extend all necessary help to them. Minister Mahender Reddy and MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy visited the spot and consoled the families of the bereaved. When the victims' families surrounded him, Mahender Reddy assured them that he would plead with the Chief Minister to get them a good ex-gratia.
