Fires erupted in the Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad this afternoon causing havoc among its employees. The Railway staff, who noticed blazes erupting from the scrap room, immediately alerted the Fire Service station a few blocks away, after which two fire tenders rushed to the spot.
By the time the fire truck reached the spot, the entire room was in flames. Scrap paper and oil and other items fuelled the fire. On seeing the rising flames and smoke, some 1000-odd employees working at the Rail Nilayam ran helter skelter with fear.
The fire officials and the local police are investigating the cause of the fires.
This is the first time that a fire accident took place at the Rail Nilayam, which is the headquarters of the South Central Railway.
