Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today reiterated that the State government would continue its fight against the encroachment of lakes, and that it had taken up the demolition drive to protect lakes and government lands which were indiscriminately encroached upon during the previous regime.
Speaking at a program after laying the foundation stone for the Hare Krishna Heritage Tower at Kokapet, the Chief Minister said the demolition drive was not designed for politics or political parties, and that the government had undertaken the program with a will to provide better lives for the future generations.
"We will not succumb to the pressure and will take stringent action against the encroachers," Reddy asserted.
The Chief Minister said that the Nizam rulers had developed Hyderabad as a lake city a hundred years ago, and lamented that some leaders had built farmhouses for luxuries in the vicinity of lakes and ponds which were intended to quench the thirsts of crores of people.
"Inspired by Lord Krishna's teachings to Arjuna in the Kurukshetra battle, my government stands for righteousness, and will continue to fight against the encroachments of lakes and ponds in the State," he said.
Speaking about the tower project, the Chief Minister said that he was fortunate to be able to attend such a big program, organised by the Hare Krishna Foundation, as a chief guest, and that it was a rare opportunity that came only once in a lifetime.
"The proposed heritage tower, which is being constructed to hit a height of 430 feet, will be a pride of Telangana, and will provide spiritual teachings in the concrete jungle. The construction of this tower will be completed in 36 or 40 months, and the new building will also be inaugurated by me. It is a great occasion in history," Reddy said.
Minister Sridhar Babu, MLA Prakash Goud, MLCs Patnam Mahender Reddy and Damodar Reddy, and others were also present in the program.
