Communist Party Of India state secretary K Narayana on Sunday stated that his party is opposed to Foreign Direct Investments in the retail sector.
Talking to media persons, Narayana said that FDI in the retail sector would be a big blow to small and middle-level shop owners, and that it would affect their livelihood.
He asked the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to oppose the proposal in the state, and warned of starting an agitation if he fails to do so.
He said that the CPI would stage rallies and dharnas across the state opposing FDI in the retail sector.
Narayana demanded that the government announce a support price for sugarcane growers, who, he said, are in dire straits due to the government's indifferent attitude.
Sugarcane growers are also attempting to declare a "crop holiday" on the lines of paddy growers, in Godavari districts, he said.
The CPI leader demanded that the CBI probe ministers looting mineral wealth from the state, instead of targeting IAS officers.
"It is not a good precedent for the probing agency to target only IAS officers. The agency should investigate the ministers concerned, who ordered the issuing of GOs," he opined. (INN)
