Twenty-Point Economic Programme Chairman N Tulasi Reddy on Friday asked Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary B V Raghavulu to give up his fast and make constructive suggestions to the state government, as the welfare schemes for SC, ST, BC, minorities and industrial workers were already being implemented.
Tulasi Reddy pointed out that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has always been ready to implement any suggestions with respect to the weaker sections, and that there was no need for the CPM leader to undertake the fast.
The CPM, which is a truncated party of the CPI, was reduced to only 1 MLA in the Assembly when compared to the CPI which has 4 MLAs. "Raghavulu has commenced the fast with a motive to safeguard his party's survival," Tulasi added.
He told mediapersons at the Secretariat on Friday that the Congress government has already been implementing various schemes to lift the downtrodden from the poverty levels.
He recalled that in the past, Damodaram Sanjeeviah, who belonged to an SC, and Tangururi Anjiah, a labour leader, were both made chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh during the Congress rule. "This demonstrates that the Congress has always been on the side of the poor," he added.
Tulasi Reddy pointed out that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) had drawn a blank in the recent MLC elections. He said that TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao does not have a hold on even his own party members.
He stated that the leadership of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was a futile exercise, and further alleged that Jaganmohan Reddy was more interested in the Chief Minister's post than in managing his team skilfully. "He lacks political acumen," he added.
Reddy also stated, "In the coming local body elections, the Congress will meet with success under the Kiran-DS combination."
