Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today handed over cheques for Rs 11.8 crores as compensation to the families that were displaced by the Akkannapet railway line in the Medak district.
As many as 404 families affected by the paving of the railway line were benefited.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister promised that the State government would help families sacrificing their assets for developmental programmes in the State.
He also said that the afected families would get the benefits of welfare schemes such as Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak.
Rao maintained that the TRS government was committed to extending welfare schemes to the poor and needy classes.
Noting that the victims of the Singur project were yet to get appropriate compensation, he said that the government would soon offer them commensurate ex-gratia and other benefits.
He also said that the government would provide a helping hand to the sugarcane farmers of MDSL Company. Steps would be taken soon to set up a jaggery purchase centre in Medak town, he stated.
