Reinforcing that it doesn't pay to pay for a job, two "software companies" shut shop recently, without any notification to its employees, cheating them out of lakhs of rupees.
Claiming to be a London-based software company, Bergen Technologies, which was "set up" a few months back, took in about 50 employees, and charged them anywhere between Rs. 30,000 to a lakh in terms of security deposit, only to shut shop 3 months later without giving them even a month's salary. According to reports, the owner of the shopping complex where the company was set up had filed a complaint with the police a week ago, saying that they hadn't paid rents for the office in 3 months. 2 have been arrested with regard to this case, while 3 others have absconded..
Another such company is Napster Technologies, whose office is in Srinagar Colony. This company recruited freshers right off of campus, and promised them Rs. 15,000 as pay during the training period, and to increase it to Rs. 50,000 afterwards. Of course, Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 35,000 is a small price to pay for a job like this. But then, the pay never came, and the "employees" who had gotten suspiscious by then, forced the HR person to divulge the truth, and handed him over to the police.
