Senior Congress leader and former minister D Sridhar Babu today got relief in the drugs case with the High Court granting him conditional anticipatory bail.
The Chikkadpally police in the city had registered a case against Sridhar Babu under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act on the charge that he had hatched a conspiracy to keep ganja in a Manthani TRS leader's house to trap him.
Sridhar Babu approached the High Court alleging that TRS leaders had filed a false case against him as political vendetta. The police argued in the court that they have prima facie evidence regarding Sridhar Babu's involvement in the case, and asked the court not to grant bail.
Justice Shameem Akhter, however, chose to grant the anticipatory bail to Sridhar Babu under the conditions that he report on the second Saturday of every month at the Chikkadpally police station till the filing of the chargesheet, and not leave the country without the permission of the court.
