The Hyderabad police today registered former Andhra Pradesh minister Bhuma Akhila Priya as the A1, the main accused, in the case of the
kidnapping of former badminton player Praveen Rao and his brothers, following a preliminary probe.
She had originally been listed as A2, the second accused, in the case, with TDP leader A V Subba Reddy registered as A1. However, now Reddy has been registered as A2.
Priya's husband Bhargav Ram has been registered as A3.
The police also added the names of several others, including Srinivasa Rao, Sai, Chanti and Prakash, involved in the case, as the other accused.
Investigations have revealed that the kidnapping was the result of a land dispute that turned ugly.
The dispute between the two TDP leaders and Praveen Rao occurred over a 50-acre parcel of land in Hafizpet. The two accused leaders had reportedly been forcing Rao and his family to hand over the land for some time now.
The police believe that in a ditch effort to acquire the land, the leaders conspired to intimidate the Rao family into handing over the property.
The three persons were kidnapped from their Bowenpally home late on Tuesday night by about 15 people who had barged into their residence posing as income tax officials. The three were released at Rangareddy district's Narsingi, later.
The police apprehended the kidnappers at Vikarabad.
