Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said that while the Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor districts were the worst hit due to the depression in the Bay Of Bengal, standing crops in the remaining coastal districts had also suffered heavy damage.
Addressing the district Collectors, officials of the fire services and various other departments concerned through a tele-conference from his residence, the Chief Minister asked them to send rescue teams to all the affected districts and step up relief and rehabilitation measures on a war-footing.
He directed the entire administration to remain on a high alert, as rains were still lashing the Nellore district.
The Chief Minister also suggested to the officials that they seek the Centre's permission to utilize the railway network in the Nellore district to transport essential commodities and defence personnel to the devastated areas.
He directed the officials to ensure that every affected family got relief as per the new GO issued by the government.
Apart from essential commodities and basic amenities being provided in the rehabilitation centers, sanitation in all the affected districts should be improved and spread of contagious diseases curbed, he added.
Pointing out that the standing paddy crop was badly damaged in the Rayalaseema region and the Nellore, Prakasam and Godavari districts, the Chief Minister asked the officials to take urgent steps to flush out stagnant rain water from the fields on a war-footing because any delay or negligence would cause heavy loss to the farmers and the State.
As November was a cyclone-prone month, the administration should prepare action plans to face such calamitous situations in the future, he added.
