AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday visited the rain-affected areas in the Nellore district to have first-hand information about the loss of life and property.

He reviewed the situation in the flood-affected areas with the district officials.

Speaking to the media later, the Chief Minister said that there had been heavy losses due to low pressure, and that it might take another two days to assess the damage caused by the rain's fury.

He said that the State government had sent an S.O.S. to the Centre seeking immediate financial assistance of Rs 3,000 crores to provide rehabilitation and relief to the affected population.

The CM stated that there had been huge losses to the farmers of the Nellore, Kadapa, Anantapur, East Godavari and West Godavari districts. Aqua farmers in the Nellore district alone suffered losses of Rs 1,000 crores, and the groundnut crop was damaged in the Anantapur district, he said. Crops in several lakhs of acres in the East and West Godavari districts were also badly damaged, he added.

The Chief Minister said that he would be camping in the Nellore district for a couple of days to monitor the situation. It was for the first time in the history of the district that it registered a record rainfall of 85 cm in five days, he said, adding that to supervise and monitor the relief and rehabilitation operations, senior IAS officers, secretaries and directors would be appointed as in-charge for five villages.
