Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today said that the Centre needed to withdraw its new Electricity Amendment bill immediately as it was "dangerous, draconian and dictatorial".
During a short debate in the Legislative Assembly on the bill, the CM said that it was against the federal spirit, and deprived the states of their powers over the power sector.
He also added that the bill would result in huge losses to the states, and would be like an axe for the farmers in Telangana who get free power 24 hours currently but whose consumption would soon be metered if the bill became law.
KCR asked the BJP MPs and leaders, including Minister of State G Kishan Reddy, to exert pressure on the Centre to withdraw the bill.
The Assembly then passed a resolution unanimously asking the Centre to withdraw the bill and protect the states' interests.
