ED Court Rejects Jagan's Plea For Exemption From Attending Court
A special ED court dismissed a plea by the AP CM urging it to exempt him from personal appearance during the hearing of the corruption cases against him.
A special court of Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday dismissed an Interlocutory Application (IA) filed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy urging it to exempt him from personal appearance before it during the hearing of the case.
The ED is pursuing five cases against the AP CM on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During arguments over his IA, Jagan urged the court to allow representatives of Jagathi Publications to represent him in the case. However, the ED strongly opposed the plea of Jagan and told the court that the appearance of the person accused of serious frauds and crimes was compulsory. It also pointed out to the court that Jagan was the principal accused in the cases.
The special court, after dismissing Jagan's plea, adjourned the case to January 31.
The other accused in the case, YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Vijaya Sai Reddy, Shyam Prasad Reddy of the Indu group, Pratap Reddy of the Penna group and former IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, also appeared before the court.
