The Central Election Commission on Friday rejected an application requesting the registration of a political party titled 'YSR Congress Party'.
The application, filed by one Mahaboob Basha from YSR district (formerly Kadapa district), was rejected by the EC because it came after the period of 1 month from the date of constitution of the party, and was thus time-barred.
This is the 3rd time the EC has rejected an application by Mahaboob Basha
The EC clarified, "Registration as a political party is granted under section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. As per sub-section 2(b) of aforesaid section 29A, the application shall be made within 30 days following the date of formation of the association or body."
The application for registration was filed on November 13, 2009, while the party was formed on September 18, 2009.
It may be remembered that YSR had died in a helicopter crash on September 2, 2009.
Basha had earlier sought a reconsideration on his application on December 29 last year, and said that he had decided to convert the association to a political party on November 5, 2009, and that hence he was not time-barred.
Basha again pleaded for reconsideration on May 28 this year, but his plea was rejected.
