Telangana Jagruthi president and former MP K Kavitha today announced the formation of her own political party, and named it Telangana Rashtra Sena - or TRS.
The announcement was made during the inaugural meeting of the party held in Munirabad, Medchal district.
After unveiling the party, she said, "I played an essential role in the Telangana movement and have a deep affection for Singareni. The credit for bringing together the women of Telangana goes to Jagruthi. Jagruthi has built a strong cultural foundation for the Telangana movement. Through the Bathukamma festival, we highlighted Telangana's culture. However, the Telangana that emerged has, in some ways, lost its direction. Even after 12 years, the dreams of Telangana have not yet been realised. The vision of a socially just Telangana seems to have faltered. I feel a sense of embarrassment about certain issues, particularly because I was part of the governing family during that period when the sand mafia committed numerous injustices."
She claimed that the Telangana movement led by K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had veered off course, and expressed sorrow that the vision of a socially equitable Telangana remained unfulfilled after 12 years of Statehood.
"KCR is no longer the leader we once knew. He has changed. He does not engage with the people, regardless of their challenges. The BRS has lost its essence," Kavitha said, and appealed to the people of Telangana to pardon her for the unfulfilled expectations during KCR's administration.
To bring about positive change a political party was essential, she said, justifying her step. She said that she aspired to be a nurturing figure for the 3.5 crore people of Telangana, asserting that only a mother truly understood her children's struggles.
Kavitha declared that she would sound the Panchajanyam - a call to action - against the three other major political parties, driven by a five-point agenda focused on key issues. She called on her party's members to actively engage with the people based on these five core issues.
The TRS agenda includes the following:
1. Education: the party will treat schools as sacred as temples and provide free education at all levels.
2. Healthcare: the TRS will offer free medical services.
3. Agriculture, the party would ensure 24-hour access to quality electricity.
4. Employment: the party will provide loans ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 20 crore to youth and create four lakh jobs immediately upon coming to power.
5. Social justice: the party would stay committed to ensuring equity for all sections of society.
