5-Year-Old Girl Hit By Drunk Driver, On Ventilator

In yet another case of drunken driving in the city, a five-year-old girl named Sanjana was left in a state of comatose while her mother's life still hangs in the balance, as they were hit by a car at Pedda Amberpet near Hayathnagar on Sunday night.

As per the police, Sridevi and her daughter Sanjana were waiting for the bus at a bus-stop, when a Hyundai Santro which was being driven by Venkataramana, an IT professional who was drunk at the time, ran them over, leaving Sanjana brain dead and her mother in a critical condition.

The driver and others in the car fled the scene of the accident, abandoning the victims and the vehicle.

The mother and daughter were admitted to a hospital, where the five year old was declared brain dead as she sustained grievous injuries. The mother is still undergoing treatment.

Upon investigating the scene, the police seized the car and found bottles of alcohol. The accused, who were at large, surrendered to the police on Monday evening.
