The State government today appointed Dr Jitender, a 1992 batch IPS officer, as the Director General of Police (Coordination) and the Head of Police Force (HoPF).
The present DGP Ravi Gupta has been transferred and posted as Special Chief Secretary to Government, Department of Home.
Born into a simple farmers' family at Jalandhar in Punjab, Dr Jitender is a 1992 batch IPS officer. He was selected for the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He served as ASP in various places in the combined Andhra Pradesh, and as the SP of Mahbubnagar and Guntur districts where Naxal influence was high.
Dr Jitender worked with the CBI in New Delhi for some time. He was later in-charge of the Greyhounds during 2004-06. He also served as the DIG of the Visakhapatnam range, and then as the DIG of the Warangal range during the Telangana movement.
Dr Jitender also served in the CID, Inquiry Commission, Vigilance and Enforcement wings. He later worked as the Additional Traffic Commissioner in the Hyderabad Commissionerate, as Additional DGP (Law and Order) and DGP (Prisons). Before assuming the post of DGP, he was working as the Chief Secretary of the Department of Home.
Dr Jitender will retire in September, 2025. Thus, he will continue as DGP for 14 months.
