In a shocking incident, an old widow belonging to the Banjarudoddi area in the Jagtial district headquarters and suffering from cancer, committed suicide by setting herself ablaze on her cot.
According to the villagers, Konda Eramma lost her husband Ratnam some 20 years back. She had an infant son at that time, and raised him by working hard as a labourer.
She got him married when he grew up, and the young couple was blessed with a son and were living happily.
However, the couple died in an accident eight years ago. Eramma still did not lose heart, and started raising the orphaned boy.
However, another blow was dealt with by fate to her - she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and confined to the bed. And she was undergoing treatment with the money being earned by her grandson, who is still a child.
Eramma got disgusted that she had become a burden to her young grandson, and set fire to her cot and burned herself, spreading shockwaves in the village.
Upon receipt of the information, the police visited her house and shifted her charred remains to the hospital for a post mortem.
