The temples in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, especially those for Lord Shiva, were filled with the devotees on Tuesday on the occasion of Karthika Pournami.
Devotees stood in serpentine queues since the early hours after having baths to offer special abhishekams to the Lord, and the temples were all glittering with the deepotsavam.
In Andhra Pradesh, priests performed special poojas at the Gangadhara mandapam in front of the Srisailam temple's gopuram. Various other temples of Lord Shiva in West Godavari and Nidadavolu, and the Srirameswara temple in Aachanta, also saw special rituals.
In Telangana, devotees thronged the Shiva temples in Hyderabad, Basara, Vemulawada, Edupayala, Keesara, Yadagirigutta and other places.
Most Hindus believe that the month of Karthika is in general holy, and that the Karthika Pournami day is especially so.
