With it being a Sunday, people of the twin cities flocked Khairatabad in the city for a darsanam (glimpse) of the fammous Khairatabad "Bada" Ganesh.
The streets of Khairatabad were flooded with devotees since the morning, and the area was resounding with recurring chants of Ganapathi Maharaj Ki Jai, Ganapathi Bappa Moriya and more. Both the RTC buses and the metro trains going towards Khairatabad were crowded with people who wanted to have a darsanam of the mammoth idol of the Lord. Devotees were seen standing in serpentine queues, and seeing that the organising committee stopped VIP darsanams and allowed ordinary devotees. The committee estimated that one and a half lakh devotees would have had darsanam by the afternoon itself.
Meanwhile, the major immersion of the Ganesh idols will take place in the city on September 28. Several idols are being immersed already, with hundreds of idols reaching the Tank Bund today. Areas around Khairatabad, Somajiguda, Necklace Road and Tank Bund are bustling with milling overcrowds. The authorities ensured that no untoward incident took place in the area.
