Hyderabad | 27th December 2019
The Andhra Pradesh police on Friday arrested former minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, a TDP leader, for staging a dharna demanding that the State government not shift the capital from Amaravathi.

Rao was arrested at Gollapudi.

Speaking on the occasion, Rao alleged that CM Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had decided to shift the capital to serve his own selfish goals.

He also alleged that the ruling YSRCP leaders had bought huge chunks of lands in Visakhapatnam before making the announcement of the shifting of the capital, and that the CM would loot the entire north Andhra region after shifting the capital.

Meanwhile, the residents of 29 villages abutting the present capital Amaravati continued their agitation demanding the withdrawal of the decision of the State government to create three capitals. The police have already imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in all the agitating villages.
