Reacting to the comments by the owner of N Convention, actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, on the demolition of the convention centre in Madhapur, HYDRA Commissioner A V Ranganath today said that the structure was demolished as per the law.

He added that there was no stay order by any court on demolition of the convention centre.

"It is completely untrue that the High Court had given a stay order. The demolition was done because there were structures in the FTL. The tank was encroached upon to construct the convention centre," he said, and claimed that HYDRA had acted completely as per the law in carrying out the demolition.

"The N Convention management tried to regularise the structures, but its request for the regularisation was rejected by the authorities in the past," he said. He added that there were already High Court judgments on N Convention as also Lokayukta judgments.

He said that all the structures part of the convention centre had been completely demolished, and that the place where it stood had now become an open area.

HYDRA also said in a statement that the officials of the GHMC, town planning, irrigation and revenue departments were involved in the removal of encroachments including N Convention in Thammidikunta Cheruvu, Khanamet village and NTL in Madhapur. It said that the HMDA had issued a preliminary notification regarding the FTL and buffer zones of the Thammidikunta lake in 2014, and a final notification in 2016. "After the preliminary notification was issued in 2014, the N Convention management approached the High Court, which directed the following of the statutory process with regard to the determination of the FTL area. Accordingly, the FTL survey was conducted in the presence of the N Convention management. The case against N Convention has been pending since 2017," it said.

It alleged that the N Convention management was manipulating the systems & processes and continuing its commercial operations despite the survey being completed. It also said that no building permission had been given by the GHMC to the convention centre.

"The N Convention management also tried to regularise the unauthorised constructions under the Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS). But its application had been rejected by the authorities concerned," HYDRA said.
