Congress In-Charge Of State Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday stated that the government would announce a decision on the formation of a separate Telangana, after 10 November.
Talking to the media, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the government would make an announcement about the controversial Telangana statehood after 10 November, Guru Purnima day.
He made this statement after a half hour meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Azad's statement assumes importance in the wake of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's recent statement that the Telangana issue would resolved after the Bakrid festival. Azad told the media that the decision on Telangana statehood was being delayed due to its sensitiveness.
According to sources, Azad briefed Sonia Gandhi about the situation in Telangana after the withdrawal of the employees' general strike.
He also reportedly briefed Sonia Gandhi about the hunger strike launched by former minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and the resignation of 3 MLAs from the party, who later joined TRS.
Azad, according to sources, stressed the importance of resolving the Telangana issue on top priority and putting an end to the uncertainty in the state.
The decision on Telangana is likely to be taken in the Congress Core Committee meeting scheduled on 11 November, the sources said.
Earlier, Azad met Congress MP Sarvey Satyanarayana and discussed the strategy to be adopted over the Telangana issue. (INN)
