Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has demanded the government introduce a Sub-Plan Bill for BCs and Minorities as well, and said the government should sincerely implement the welfare plans without playing vote-bank politics.
Participating in the discussion on the SC/ST Sub-Plan Bill 2012, MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said that there is every need to uplift the dalits and the tribals, and the legislation should be backed up by a strong will for the cause.
Taking objection to the government’s refusal to table the recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, he said, “This shows the lack of sincerity of the government, and raises doubts as to why it is not being tabled.”
“We had moved an adjournment motion to this effect which was disallowed, and now the government refuses to place before the House the recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee. This shows the committment of the Congress government,” he said amidst loud protests from the treasury benches. "We understand that only four of the 42 recommendations were taken into consideration, and we want to know what the 38 rejected recommendations are. Some of them may be useful and can be included in the Bill before it is too late", he added.
Earlier, Jaiprakash Naryan of Lok Satta Party said that the thrust of the spending should be on education, employment and medicare, and lamented that caste discrimination still persists in the society. Long-term measures should be taken up to address the grievances of dalits and tribals, he said, and extended his support to the Bill. Reservations in the private sector is an important factor that the Government should pursue, he said. (INN)
