Congress workers from the Amberpet Assembly constituency on Tuesday staged a dharna before Gandhi Bhavan protesting against the comments made by senior party leader V Hanumantha Rao against the dalit leaders in the state.
The protestors alleged that VHR's remarks on the dalit leaders during the program organized to felicitate CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka were insulting, and demanded action against VHR.
Speaking on the occasion, former NSUI national secretary Mohan and former Youth Congress secretary Rajesh alleged that VHR's comments during the program, including among others calling them rowdies, amounted to verbal abuse. They also alleged that VHR had also incited his supporters to attack them, and that they faced threats to their lives. They demanded the suspension of VHR from the party.
Activists of several dalit organizations took part in the agitation.
