On Friday, the death toll due to cyclone Nilam increased to seven, with four deaths being reported from Prakasam district alone. One fisherman is also reported missing in Srikakulam district.
One death has been reported each from East Godavari, Nellore and Anantapur districts each. Of seven deaths, three persons died due to electrocution, three of wall collapse, and one person drowned to death in a local stream.
According to the Met Department, Thursday's depression over south interior Karnataka and neighbourhood weakened into a well-marked low pressure area over north interior Karnataka and adjoining Rayalaseema at 8:30am on Friday. The system is expected to further weaken gradually during the next 12 hours.
Under the influence of this system, rainfall at many places, would occur over Andhra Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh and south Orissa during the next 24 hours, with isolated heavy rains, the Met department said.
On Friday, Krishna district received the maximum rainfall of 88.9mm, followed by Guntur (76.5), Vizianagaram (76.4), Khammam (58.3), Prakasam (51.9), East Godavari (51.3), Visakhapatnam (50.1) and West Godavari (49.8). The state capital received a rainfall of 39.2mm, while Ranga Reddy district received 27.8mm of rainfall.
