AP Power Sector Gears Up For Cyclone Vardah

The State government alerted the Power sector to prepare for any eventuality and restore damaged power systems immediately if the need arose.
Hyderabad | 12th December 2016
In view of the heavy rains ensuing from Cyclone Vardah on the Coast between Nellore and Chennai, the Andhra Pradesh government alerted the official machinery, especially the Power sector to prepare for any eventuality and restore damaged power systems immediately if the need arose.

Addressing Power officials of the APSPDCL which covers the Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Prakasam, Principal Secretary Ajay Jain directed engineers and staff in the four districts to remain on high alert to tackle Vardah.

He asked officials to take care of the breakdown of lines due to falling of tree branches, flashover of insulators, snapping of conductors, swinging of lines, flooding in substations and so on.

Ajay Jain also ordered them to be prepared with all equipment required for quick transportation. Procure small generators to be sued for emergency situations for standby purposes and make available the required number of de-watering pumps also for emergency purpose.

"We shall focus on protecting people against electrocution, which is a common accident during calamities, by switching of feeders, if necessary, during the critical duration of heavy gale and downpour," Jain directed.

He further directed them to pool up more labour force from nearby areas of the Nellore district.
