The Telangana wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI) demanded that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao withdraw the proposals to build a Uranium plant at Amrabad in the Nagarkurnool district.
CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said that Amrabad area was located in the Nallamala forest area and has 44 villages, 18 gram panchayats, 30 thandas and 60,000 population, and the people would be affected if the plant was constructed.
He said that the people had organised a huge public meeting at Amrabad on January 11, demanding the withdrawal of the proposals.
Reddy asked the Chief Minister to initiate steps to stop the construction on humanitarian grounds.
As per reports, during the Telangana movement, Nizamabad MP K Kavitha and other TRS leaders visited the site proposed for the construction of the reactor and assured the people that the TRS would obstruct the construction of Uranium plant.
