The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday asked the Group of Ministers (GoM) designated by the Centre for consultations on the Telangana issue, to keep Andhra Pradesh united.
Speaking to media persons after meeting the GoM here, CPI (M) state secretary B V Raghuvulu and floor leader Julakanti Ranga Reddy said that their party has strongly opposed the division of the state.
Raghuvulu said that the division would lead to several new problems, especially for the backward districts of both the regions. He said that the GoM has been asked to take special measures to solve the water problem in Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Nalgnoda and Prakasam districts, by completing pending irrigation works on priority.
Similarly, he opined that the Pranahita-Chevella Project should be completed at the earliest to address the irrigation needs of backward areas of the Telangana region. (INN)
