Minister for Handlooms and Textiles P Shankar Rao on Tuesday said that a high-ranking official in the police department had advised him to shift his residence to the Ministers' Quarters after he received threatening calls from unidentified persons during participation in the Rachabanda program.
Talking to media persons on the Assembly premises, Dr. Shankar Rao added that he would talk to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and ask for enhanced security following the threat calls.
He also said that he would lodge complaints in this regard with the Congress high command, including party president Sonia Gandhi, the Chief Minister, and the Home Minister K Sabitha Indra Reddy.
Dr. Rao said, "I have not complained so far. However, a high official in police department advised me to shift my residence to the Ministers' Quarters. I will talk to the Chief Minister regarding the increase of security for me in this regard."
The minister asserted, "I will continue my fight against former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for allegedly misusing his MP powers. I will not bow down to such threatening calls."
The minister had earlier revealed that he had addressed a letter to the High Court in October 2010 seeking an enquiry by CBI on Jaganmohan Reddy, and appropriate action against the newspaper and TV channel owned by him, for misappropriation and acquiring of illegal wealth by deceitful means by misusing the power of his father, the former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
He said that he had submitted proof and the available information on companies owned by Jaganmohan Reddy in November 2010.
Dr. Rao said he would continue the fight against corruption till justice prevailed, and would also protect the interests of the public.
Even a common man could get justice from the High Court by merely writing a post card, the minister said.
When reporters asked why the Congress leadership was particularly targeting Jaganmohan Reddy on charges of amassing ill-gotten wealth despite allegations against some of the ministers in the central government being involved in the 2G spectrum scandal which cost the exchequer Rs 1.75 crores, Dr. Shankar Rao rubbished the statements and left the scene without giving any clear answer.
