The AP Cabinet met in Amaravathi today. The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu discussed several key issues.
The revival of the volunteer system came up for discussion in the meeting. Officials informed the Cabinet that the tenure of the volunteers had expired in August 2024. Several ministers also said that former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had forced the volunteers to resign even before the expiry of the term to campaign for his party, and that Jagan ruled the State in a fraudulent and autocratic manner. Naidu suggested to the officials that they collect more information on how to revive the volunteer system.
The Cabinet also discussed the irregularities committed by the previous government in the purchase of the Sakshi daily newspapers. Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy informed the Cabinet that Rs 205 crore had been spent on buying the daily in two years. The Chief Minister said that he would order an inquiry into the payments made for the daily in violation of the rules. Several ministers said that an inquiry should also be conducted into the rules under which the funds were allocated for the purchase of the daily.
The Cabinet gave its green signal for the new liquor policy. It also approved a proposal allowing private liquor shops. The Cabinet decided to make available quality liquor below Rs 100 as promised by the TDP in the election campaign, and gave the green signal to make quality liquor available at Rs 99.
The Cabinet also approved the flood relief package announced by CM Chandrababu Naidu.
Naidu also kept the promise made to the BCs in the election campaign. A resolution was passed in the Cabinet meeting to provide 33% reservations to BCs in the legislative bodies. The Cabinet also recommended to the Centre the reservations. Minister Savita thanked Naidu for the reservations resolution.
