Mock Assembly Discusses Telangana

30 legislators belonging to Congress, TDP, TRS and BJP attended the Mock Assembly conducted by Telangana Journalists Forum, and discussed the issue of Telangana
Hyderabad | 15th March 2011
The Congress legislators who were boycotting the Assembly sessions fighting for a separate Telangana were caught unawares by Telangana Journalists Forum which organised a Mock Assembly, leaving their stand exposed.

Almost 30 legislators attended the session and conducted proceedings that criticised the state and Central governments for the inordinate delay in tabling a bill on separate Telangana in the Parliament.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was supposedly upset on receiving news that the Congress legislators who were boycotting the Budget Session were on the move to attend the Mock Assembly. KKR is understood to have convened an urgent meeting with them in the CLP office, and successfully thwarted their attempt to proceed towards the venue of the mock session.

Kiran Kumar Reddy successfully impressed upon them that the issue was not in his hands, and that it was unfair to boycott the Assembly and push the government into a predicament.

Assisted by PCC President D Srinivas, the Chief Minister urged them to attend the regular Assembly session.

Organized at a private hall in Khairatabad by the Telangana Journalists Forum, the session was attended by around 30 legislators from TRS, TDP and BJP. The Mock Assembly sought to highlight the Telangana problem, intensify their struggle and motivate all concerned to address the issue at the earliest.

K. Harishwar Reddy was unanimously elected as the Mock Assembly speaker by the Telangana legislators, and he conducted the proceedings.

They demanded a resolution for introducing a Bill in the Parliament for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and to carve out a separate Telangana. They also passed a condolence resolution in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Telangana.

The Congress legislators who were dissuaded from attending the meeting were severely criticized and faced the ire of the mock session for lacking commitment to the issue.
