Congress Seeks Fresh Elections For Jubilee Hills

A team of Congress leaders with former MLA P Vishnuvardhan Reddy today urged the Election Commission to cancel the Assembly elections for Jubilee Hills and conduct fresh polls claiming that the EVMs and the VVPATs were tampered with at the behest of the TRS.

Reddy and Convenor of the Telangana Congress Election Co-ordination Committee Niranjan submitted a memorandum at CEO Rajat Kumar's office complaining of tampering of VVPATs and seeking fresh elections.

The TRS candidate had influenced the concerned officials to tamper with and break the seals of the boxes containing the VVPATs and to remove slips from the boxes, they alleged.

They charged that the EVMs and the VVPATs of Jubilee Hills had been shifted to the Hyderabad district's permanent warehouse in Chudi Bazar without any information to the candidates in the fray. They had also come to know that the EVM-VVPATs were brought to the godown without seals from the counting centres and that there was no security, they said.

They said that the representatives of the political parties were invited by the DEO to be present at the sealing of the EVM-VVPATs at the GHMC warehouse at Chudi Bazar on December 24. Though the DEO had asked the officials then to do it, they had failed to seal the VVPATs, the Congress team alleged.

"We will move High Court seeking justice to get the VVPAT slips counted," they said.
