Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao slammed the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen for describing the Congress as a communal party.
Addressing the PCC meeting at LB Stadium here on Sunday, Hanumantha Rao said that the MIM had extracted several benefits by having ties with the Congress party, and now it was wrongly accusing the ruling party of having relations with the RSS, BJP and other communal outfits. He said that while the Congress party ruled across the state, it was MIM which has been literally ruling the Old City.
Hanumantha Rao asked Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to promote the leaders of minority communities to strengthen the Congress party in the city. He also demanded that the party introduce a sub-plan for the minorities and backward classes along the lines of the SC/ST sub-plan bill.
The Rajya Sabha MP also condemned YSR Congress party leader Jagan Mohan Reddy for aspiring to become Chief Minister immediately after his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's death. He said that the sympathy factor would not work for a longer period, and that one would have to work hard to achieve the post of Chief Minister.
Hanumantha Rao welcomed the PCC meeting and said that while the other parties were busy holding padayatras, the Congress party held the meeting after three years. He demanded that more meetings should be conducted on a regular basis. He also advised the union ministers to tour the interior areas of the state to strengthen the party.
Earlier, senior leaders including T Subbarami Reddy, PP Pallam Raju, Rajiv Ratan, Arun Kumar, G Venkataswamy and M Kodanda Reddy also addressed the gathering. (INN)
