Police Thwarts Congress, Lecturer-Student Protests

Security arrangements at TRS Bhavan were beefed after the Telangana Congress threatened to launch a protest against regularization of contract-lecturer service.
Hyderabad | 3rd February 2017
Security arrangements at TRS Bhavan were beefed after the Telangana Congress threatened to launch a protest in front of the building against regularization of contract-lecturer services.

Protesting this earlier, several contract lecturers and students demonstrated outside the Telangana Congress' Gandhi Bhavan (Jubilee Hills) against the Congress' opposition to the regularization of contract-lecturer services.

The lecturers protested before Gandhi Bhavan against Congress leader Manavata Rai for filing a petition in the High Court opposing regularization of their services. He moved court against the GO No 16 (issued by the Telangana government regularizing contract teaching services) on the plea that many of the contract lecturers were not qualified or credible.

The agitating lecturers sat down and raised slogans against the Congress and pitched banners and placards denouncing its move.

The Hyderabad Police then arrived at the scene and took the agitators into custody after the situation became uncontrollable.

Responding to this incident, Congress leader Manavata Rai announced that he would lead a rally of unemployed youth to stage a dharna before the TRS Bhavan in Jubilee Hills. To prevent any untoward incident, the police made elaborate security arrangements before the TRS Bhavan and on the roads leading to it.

Meanwhile, students of Osmania University rallied before TRS Bhavan, protesting against the State for not disbursing fee reimbursement and SC/ST scholarship dues. However, their attempts were oiled by the Osmania University Police who dispersed them back to the university.
