BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao alleged that the Congress was the main villain of Telangana all through.
Addressing a Praja Aashirwada Sabha at Bodhan in Nizamabad district today, the CM said that the Congress had never worked for the interests of the Telangana people, and that on the contrary the party had always obstructed the growth of the State.
He said that Telangana was merged into Andhra Pradesh against the wishes of the people, and that the Telangana people had to fight for 58 years for that small mistake.
"Due to the Congress, 400 people were killed in the 1969 statehood struggle. Similarly, in the 2004 election, the BRS had forged an alliance with the Congress as the party had promised to grant statehood to the Telangana region. However, after the election the Congress changed its stance and caused the deaths of many people. Moreover, the Congress also tried to split the BRS and buy its MLAs. Telangana was finally granted by the Congress government after hundreds of people died and after the relentless fight of the BRS for 15 years," KCR claimed.
He said that Nizamabad district had regained its former glory after the formation of Telangana State under the tenure of the BRS government, and that with the construction of the Kaleswaram project, the Nizam Sagar project was full with water 365 days every year.
The CM also said that the Singur project water was no longer used for Hyderabad and that its water had been allocated for irrigation needs, as Hyderabad was now being given the Godavari's waters for its drinking water needs.
The Chief Minister later also addressed three meetings in the Nizamabad Urban, Yellareddy and Medak Assembly constituencies, where he said that both the BJP and the Congress would not be of any use to Telangana, and that the regional parties would play a key role in the days to come and form a coalition government at the Centre after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
