Expressing confidence that the Congress candidates would easily win the by-elections for the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, Nellore MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy on Tuesday stated that the party does not need to resort to devious practices as reported in a section of the media.
Vivekananda Reddy was reacting to reports that the Congress was behind
the nominations filed by the namesakes of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Y S Vijayalakshmi for the by-elections scheduled for May 8th.
"The media reports are baseless and far from the truth," the Nellore MLA said.
"There is no need for the Congress to resort to such tactics. The Congress has its own hold in the constituency and people will definitely vote for the party. The voters of Kadapa will anyway support the Congress candidates due to the good work of party President Sonia Gandhi and the state government in that region," he pointed out.
Vivekananda Reddy claimed that a few namesakes of Congress candidate D L Ravindra Reddy and TDP candidate Mysoora Reddy have also filed nominations.
"Except Agriculture Minister and Pulivendula candidate Y S Vivekananda Reddy, namesakes of almost all the leaders have filed their papers," he revealed, and added, "I do not know why the media is suspecting the role of the Congress in this issue."
The MLA further said that a wave in support of the Congress was sweeping over Kadapa, and added that "people would repose their faith to the schemes and promises implemented by the party".
He further urged the Election Commission to take steps to curb the influence of money in the by-elections. (INN)
