Congress senior vice-president and official spokesperson G Niranjan, and advocate M Ramachandra Reddy, today wrote to Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar complaining about the high-handed acts of "BJP miscreants" who vandalised and set fire to the Congress office in Chandur mandal in the Munugodu Assembly constituency, and sought action against the "inactive" police.
They complained to the CEC about the burning down of the Congress office on the night of October 10 which completely damaged the campaign material, files and party flags, claiming that its motive was to demoralise the party cadre during the ongoing election campaigning.
The "BJP miscreants", with the active instigation of their leaders and in violation of the election code, disturbed the public peace by adopting illegal practices, and were trying to divert the attention of the Congress cadre and leaders from the election campaign, the complainants said.
Though the situation was tense in the run-up to the incident, the police of Nalgonda district could not anticipate the crime and did not take preventive measures to protect the Congress office and property, Niranjan and Reddy added.
The Nalgonda police also failed to take any action against the culprits, and due to that, the BJP and the TRS cadre were planning to repeat the crime in the near future, the complainants lamented.
In this context, the complainants requested the CEC to take stern action against the police, and also to direct the Nalgonda SP to provide protection to the Congress offices and leaders from the BJP and TRS miscreants.
