TRS Asked To Support Racha Banda

N Tulasi Reddy asked TRS chief KCR to refrain from the disrupting the Racha Banda which aims to help the poor.
Hyderabad | 20th January 2011
Indira Gandhi 20-point Economic Program Chairman N Tulasi Reddy on Wednesday appealed to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President, K Chandrasekhar Rao, to refrain from disrupting the Racha Banda scheduled to begin from 24th January, and to join it for its successful launch in rural areas.

Tulasi Reddy pointed out that under Praja Patham Program, the state government had solved various problems of the people for 5 years till 2010, and picking up the thread from that program, Racha Banda would similarly help solve the problems faced by the poor, besides allocating funds to meet their demands including pensions, housing, insurance and drinking water.

If the TRS chose to disrupt such a program, said Tulasi Reddy at the Secretariat, they would be denouncing the welfare measures being taken up by the government.

He condemned the attitude of the TRS chief who called on his cadre to disrupt the Racha Banda in all the 117 Telangana constituencies.

Tulasi Reddy said that over 5 lakh eligible families from the under-privileged class had been identified for the issuing of ration coupons, apart from extending facilities under Arogyasri, Indiramma Housing Scheme, pensions and insurance, and that the attempt by the government was praiseworthy.

With a view of taking spot decisions at their door-step, the scheme has been specifically designed to cater to the needs of the poor. Its predecessor program, Praja Patham in 2010, saw the issuing of over 43,000 pensions and 16,000 ration cards, the disposal of 17,000 applications for housing, 15,000 applications for drinking water facilities and 11,000 applications for power. In all over, 1.49 lakh petitions were disposed of.

"In the light of such welfare measures taken up successfully till 2010, the TRS must reconsider their decision and not hinder the efforts being made for the welfare of the deserving poor," said Tulasi Reddy.
