The Congress party on Thursday showed all its 26 rebel MLAs, who
resigned from their posts in favour of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, the door.
Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanaraya confirmed that the rebel MLAs' resignations from the party's primary membership was accepted.
This means that the Congress has officially adopted a confrontation mode, instead of a reconciliatory mode, with the YSR Congress Party, demonstrating that anyone supporting the latter will be told to "move on".
Botsa Satyanarayana said that Speaker Nadendla Manohar has to take a decision on their MLAs' posts.
The PCC chief accused Y S Jaganmohan Reddy of resorting to horse-trading to destabilize the Congress Government in the state.
Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday, Botsa alleged that Jagan tried to "buy" Congress MLAs at the rate of Rs. 20 crore per head.
"These MLAs must think twice before accepting Jagan's bribe," he said, "There is no need for the Congress party to talk to them and bring them back to the party fold."
Botsa said that the Congress is ready for mid-term elections, and hoped that people would teach a befitting lesson to all defectors by electing candidates of the Congress.
If the rebel MLAs win, he said, it would mean that the people have opened the gates for corruption in their constituencies. He also said corruption would be the agenda for the Congress party in the next elections.
Responding to former minister Jeevan Reddy's query on why the government did not file a counter petition to clear YSR's name from the CBI's FIR in Jagan's case, Botsa said, "Let Jaganmohan Reddy, who claims to be the sole political heir of YSR, prove that YSR is a spotless leader. If he fails, then the Congress will immediately file a petition in the court," he said.
He reiterated that Jagan could be the legal heir for YSR's properties and wealth but he could not claim heritance for his schemes and welfare programs. (INN)
