Police had to face a torrid time when they tried to produce Sangareddy Congress MLA Thurpu Jayaprakash Reddy in court following his arrest earlier in the day on charges of making an inflammatory speech.
The Congress MLA's followers gathered around the van in which he was brought to court, and stopped the police from opening the van's doors. The police finally managed to bring Reddy out of the van after much pushing and jostling.
Earlier, arguments between the police and the MLA's supports delayed the arrest at Jayaprakash Reddy's residence at Yousufguda in the city.
Reddy had allegedly made the inflammatory comments while campaigning, and the EC had ordered the booking of cases against him under various sections 3 days back.
The tension was evident right from the MLA's residence to the Sangareddy Court premises with his supporters shouting slogans in his favour and against the police.
The police said that they exercised maximum possible restraint and that they did not use force to push away the agitating supporters.
Meanwhile, the Congress MLA's lawyers said that they have moved the courts in order to obtain bail for him.
A case has been registered against him under IPC sections 153-A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth and residence) and 505 (2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, ill-will or hatred between classes).
