Fees Reimbursement: SC Slams Govt
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Andhra Pradesh government to release the fees reimbursement dues, and file an explanation within a week explaining the delay.
In what could be a major relief to private engineering college managements and parents of students, the Supreme Court on Monday directed the Andhra Pradesh government to release the fees reimbursement dues, and file an explanation within one week giving reasons for the delay in clearing the arrears due.
Taking a serious note on the failure of the state to clear the arrears amounting to Rs. 3,400 crores before the deadline fixed by it on January 30, the apex court rejected the government’s petition, seeking another three months extension for clearing dues due to financial problems, outright.
Slamming the state government for failing to stick to its earlier order, the court said that because of the government's negligence several students are facing a lot of problems. "The government is not acting in a responsible manner, and is playing games with students' career. The government is simply shifting its responsibility onto college managements. Why should the managements take loans from banks when the fault lies with the state government?” the court asked.
The court directed the state government to file its response within a week on what action it has taken on the orders. The court also found fault with the government contention that irregularities took place in the fee reimbursements and that that was the reason behind it seeking an extension of another three months.
The private college managements stated that they have not received a paisa from state government since the past nine months, and sought the court to direct the government to release at least 50 percent of the dues immediately. The college managements said the government can pay the remaining dues after April.
The managements had approached the apex court after talks with the government failed and they had threatened to close the colleges by February 16.
Reacting to the apex court judgement, Higher Education Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said the government acted responsibly in the fee reimbursement.
He said that the government would solve this problem by this month's end, by holding another meeting with the private colleges' managements on February 16.
Rajanarsimha expressed confidence that the government would find a solution to this problem though dialogue.

Government is paying fee reimbursement to this private engineering colleges but Management is failed to pay salary for faculty ,only faculty is suffering. . Government should verify salary of faculty directly through Bank and after proper verification fee reimbursement has to paid. The management is very much self concentric in terms of profit. They are running the Education as a Business.
These are stupid politics.. Govt would have given fee reimbursement to the merit students than white card people. If you spend 500 to 2000 you will get white card. These all cheap politics. WE NEED a LEADER.
