Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today directed officials to make arrangements on a war footing for the establishment of a Skill University in Telangana.
The Chief Minister asked the officials of the industries and education departments and other industry professionals to submit a report with clear proposals for the establishment of the university by July 23, before the Assembly sessions which are scheduled to be held towards the end of this month.
Reddy held a meeting on Monday with industry leaders from various fields at the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) in Gachibowli on skill development.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, IT Minister Sridhar Babu and Advisor to Chief Minister Vem Narender Reddy were present in the meeting.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister enquired about the views of officials and IT professionals about the establishment of a skill university on the premises of the ESCI.
"Since the college is located close to IT companies and other industrial establishments, the officials should examine the proposal of setting up a skill university on the college premises. The State government is ready to take an appropriate decision within 24 hours of the proposals received being examined," Reddy said.
The meeting also discussed the constitution of a Board for the university on the lines of the one for ISB (Indian School of Business), and decided to float a board temporarily.
The Chief Minister asked the officials to come up with a blueprint in advance for the courses to be offered in the university.
"The State government's main objective in setting up the university is to provide advanced knowledge and help the youth upgrade their skills," Reddy said.
During the meeting, Deputy CM Vikramarka was asked to look after the financial issues involved in setting up the university. Sridhar Babu will oversee the preparation of the curriculum and the courses. These two ministers have been asked to formulate the proposals with a fixed deadline, and meet every five days hereon as the Assembly session will commence in 15 days.
The Chief Minister also asked the officials to examine whether the skill university should be established as a partnership between the government and private entities or if the government alone should take the responsibility.
The officials were also asked to hire a reputed consultancy to prepare all the necessary proposals and project reports for the establishment of the university.
Reddy said that the department of industries would be the nodal agency for the university.
Before the meeting, Reddy also inspected the convention centre which is under construction at the ESCI, and inquired with the officials about the facilities being provided in the centre.
