As weather reports predict that heavy rains will hit the nation this month, Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today instructed the officials concerned to take up large-scale cleaning of nalas and stormwater drains on a war-footing.
At a meeting at the Pragathi Bhavan, the minister told the officials to take steps to prevent any inundation of water on the roads this monsoon. They were also asked to employ special teams to de-silt and clean the nalas, and to clear debris and garbage from low-lying areas.
"Devise a plan to increase green cover and to improve environmental conditions. Work on providing better facilities to the villages and towns of the state. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is committed to developing both the rural and urban regions of Telangana by widening basic amenities access," KTR told them.
"This time, we must ensure that the monsoon does not lead to any problems for the citizens of our state. As I said, this must be done by first addressing the issue of clogged nalas as this leads to inundation. Further, Haritha Haram and Pattana Pragathi works need to be take up to address locals' issues. We have to better the infrastructure and facilities in the villages and towns of our state. Involve the local people in plantation and cleaning works," he added.
Some days ago, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav too had
addressed the problem of water-logging. He had said that the state government would examine the problem of nala encroachment and water-logging in the GHMC area so it could come up with a final solution for the same soon.
Yadav had also stated that all the illegal structures that contributed to water-logging would be removed as part of this effort.
